Mostly G&S Concert - Saturday 24th November

Local operatic society “Mostly G & S” will be holding a fantastic fundraising concert at St Michael's Church, Spencers Wood, on 24th November at 7.45pm.
Regular worshippers at St Michael’s in Spencers Wood may have noticed that the organ is now rarely used during services. Sadly, the repairs it needs to make it playable are well beyond our means, so we have decided to follow the lead of many other churches and raise money to replace it with a high quality, modern, electrical instrument for a third of the price.

Local operatic society “Mostly G & S” will be kicking off our fundraising efforts with this concert at the church on 24th November at 7.45pm. As the title suggests, the works of Gilbert and Sullivan are the backbone of the repertoire, but other works by Strauss, Schubert and even Andrew Lloyd-Webber are also featured. This concert will involve a selection of great songs from the pens of these composers, along with music from a selection of other songsmiths. In recent times, there has been a tendency in operatic societies to stage modern musicals, which means that there are fewer opportunities for singers who like to perform operetta. Mostly G & S was set up to fill the gap by performing semi-staged operettas on a regular basis.

Tickets cost £8, and are available from Caf’Active at St Michael’s Church, or by phoning Liz Ratcliffe on 988 4882.
